Satomi Shirai is originally from Tokyo, and now works in Tokyo and Chiba prefecture. She completed the Full-time Certificate Program at International Center of Photography in 2007, and received her MFA from City University of New York Hunter College in 2010. Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally including at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, National Portrait Gallery in London, and Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. Her photographs are in the collection of Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and K'MoPA /Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Art.
東京都出身。武蔵野美術大学視覚伝達デザイン学科を卒業しフリーランス・フォトグラファーとして活動後、2004年にニューヨークに渡る。2006年に文化庁芸術家海外研修制度を受ける。インターナショナル・センター・オブ・フォトグラフィのフルタイムプログラムを2007年に修了、ニューヨーク市立ハンターカレッジ大学院美術学部修士課程を2010年に修了しMFAを取得。東京都写真美術館、ナショナルポートレート・ギャラリー（ロンドン）やスミソニアン・ナショナル・ポートレート・ギャラリー（ワシントンDC）など国内外の美術館やギャラリーの展覧会に参加。東京都写真美術館と清里写真美術館(K’MoPA)に作品収蔵されている。2016年より東京と千葉県を拠点に活動。
