Satomi Shirai is a photographer/artist, originally from Tokyo. She currently lives and works in Tokyo.
Shirai lived and worked in New York from 2004 to 2015. She was granted a fellowship, Overseas Study Program for Artists by Japanese Government in 2006.
She completed the full-time Certificate Program at International Center of Photography (New York) in 2007, and received her Master of Fine Art degree from City University of New York Hunter College in 2010. After completing the programs, she also worked as a Post-Production, Retoucher in Education Department at International Center of Photography (printed for their exhibitions at the ICP museum and school).
Her photographs have been exhibited nationally and internationally including at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, National Portrait Gallery in London, and Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C.
Her works are included in the collection of Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and K’MoPA/ Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Art in Yamanashi, Japan.
